조지 마이클이 사망한 지 수 년이 지난 현재, 크리스마스 시즌에 발맞춰 [Last Christmas]라는 제목의 영화가 우리 앞에 도착했다. 흥미로운 코믹 첩보물 [스파이(Spy)], 그리고 작년에 개봉한 [부탁 하나만 들어줘(A Simple Favor)]를 연출한 폴 페이그(Paul Feig)가 영화 [Last Christmas]의 감독으로 내정되었으며, 짐작 가능하듯 이 영화는 실제로 왬, 그리고 조지 마이클의 영향으로 시작된 작품이었다.
영화 프로듀서 데이빗 리빙스톤 (David Livingstone)과 엠마 톰슨이 왬과 조지 마이클의 히트곡에 대해 이야기하던 도중 영화의 아이디어가 시작됐다. 결국 엠마 톰슨은 2013년 봄 무렵 런던에 있는 조지 마이클의 자택에서 조지 마이클을 만났고 'Last Christmas'에 영감을 받은 영화를 만들 것이라는 데에 동의를 얻었다. 영화는 지금에서야 완성됐고 안타깝게도 결국 조지 마이클은 영화를 볼 수 없게 됐다.
[왕좌의 게임 (Game Of Thrones)]을 통해 친숙한 에밀리아 클라크 (Emilia Clarke), 그리고 작년도에 화제를 모은 [크레이지 리치 아시안 (Crazy Rich Asians)]에 출연했던 헨리 골딩 (Henry Golding)이 각각 남녀 주인공으로 등장하는 이 영화는 크리스마스 시즌 런던을 배경으로 이야기가 전개되며 국내에서 12월 5일에 개봉한다.
