[ 줄거리 ]
이제 막 고등학교를 졸업한 ‘줄리’, ‘레이’ 커플과 ‘헬렌’, ‘배리’ 커플 등 네 명의 친구들은 독립기념일 축제를 즐기던 늦은 여름 밤, 술을 마시고 도로를 질주하다 한 남자를 차로 치고 만다. 자신들의 미래가 망가질 것을 불안해하던 이들은 배리의 제안에 따라 시체를 바다에 던지고 비밀을 무덤까지 가져가기로 약속한다. 고향을 떠나 대학에 입학한 줄리는 1년 후 여름 방학을 맞아 집으로 돌아오고, “나는 네가 지난 여름에 한 일을 알고 있다”라고 씌어 있는 익명의 편지를 받고 소스라치게 놀란다. 줄리는 연락이 끊어졌던 친구들과 다시 만나게 되지만 누가 그들의 비밀을 쥐고 협박을 하는지 알 길이 없는 가운데 배리가 갈고리를 든 정체불명의 괴한에게 습격당하는 일이 발생한다. 의문의 살인마에 의해 주변 사람들이 죽게 되고 살인마의 표적이 되면서 공포가 옥죄어 오는 가운데 줄리는 도망가는 대신 싸울 결심을 하고 살인마의 정체를 밝혀 나가는데…
