[SYNOPSIS]
수년간 이어진 내전과 기근으로 시달리는 동아프리카의 소말리아.
수도 모가디슈를 통치하는 모하메드 파라 아이디드 장군은 국제기구가 굶주린 국민들을 위해 지원하는 식량을 무기 삼아 전쟁을 지속해왔다.
이에 미국은 아이디드를 제거하기 위해 최정예 부대를 모가디슈에 투입한다.
1993년 10월 3일, 개리슨 장군(샘 셰퍼드)은 아이디드의 핵심 관료 2명을 납치해 그의 날개를 꺾겠다는 작전에 착수하고,
에버스먼 하사(조시 하트넷)와 그라임스 상병(이완 맥그리거)이 속한 레인저 부대, 후트 중사(에릭 바나)가 속한 델타포스, 그리고 제160 특수작전항공연대를 각료 회의 장소로 출동시킨다.
작전은 오후 3시 42분에 시작하여 1시간 가량 소요될 예정. 하지만 블랙 호크 헬리콥터 61호기와 64호기가 소말리아 민병대의 로켓포 공격을 받고 20분 간격으로 격추되면서 18시간의 악몽이 시작되는데…
